The 2000 film “Erin Brockovich,” starring Julia Roberts and directed by Steven Soderbergh, tells the story of a woman who uncovers a water contamination case in the town of Hinkley, California.  Based on true events, the production did indeed shoot in the actual town, which is commendable for its efforts at location accuracy, since there are areas closer to Los Angeles that could’ve stood in.

Erin’s house can be found in Ventura, California.

Erin picks up her kids from the babysitter next door.  The house really is directly next door to Erin’s house.  After the babysitter moves out, George, played by Aaron Eckhart, moves in and begins babysitting Erin’s kids.

Erin takes her kids to this restaurant, where she makes an excuse for not eating, in order to cover up the fact she doesn’t have enough money to cover a meal for herself.

Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

In the opening of Steven Soderbergh’s ensemble heist remake, “Ocean’s Eleven,” Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, is released from prison. This scene was filmed at the East Jersey State Prison. A real prison, the location has appeared in numerous films, including “The Irishman,” “Malcolm X,” “Rounders,” “He Got Game,” “The Hurricane” and more.

Danny meets up with Rusty, played by Brad Pitt.  The two drive to Musso & Frank Grill, the oldest restaurant in Hollywood, founded over 100 years ago.  The two can be seen driving to the parking lot with a camera mounted on the back of the car.  The interior pops up twice in the film.  First when Danny lays out the plans for a Vegas heist to Rusty, then again when Danny questions if ten men is enough, or if they need one more. The restaurant has popped up in numerous films, including “Once Upon A Time In… Hollywood,” “Ed Wood,” “Blonde” and “Swingers,” as well as the TV shows “Mad Men” and “Bosch.”

Later in the film Rusty rescues Basher, played by Don Cheadle.  This was filmed at a bank in Downtown Los Angeles, across the street from where the opening scenes of “Speed” were filmed.

The gang plans a “pinch” to create a temporary blackout on the Las Vegas Strip.  The scenes in which they steal the device to create the electromagnetic pulse were filmed at the Gillespie Neuroscience Research Facility on the UC Irvine campus in California.

Pretty Woman (1990)

In the 1990 romantic comedy “Pretty Woman,” Vivian, played by Julia Roberts, lives at this Hollywood hotel.  The real hotel is located right off of Hollywood Blvd, exactly as depicted in the film.  At the end of the movie, Edward, played by Richard Gere, climbs the fire escape with roses and the two passionately kiss.

The opera house was a composite of three locations. The exterior, supposedly located in San Francisco, is actually the Carnegie Museum & Library in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The same building appears in the films “The Silence Of The Lambs” and “Flashdance.” In fact, this film used the actual footage from “Flashdance” as their establishing shot after their planned location fell through. The interior lobby was filmed at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (900 W Exposition Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90007), while the theatre was filmed at Walt Disney Studios (500 S Buena Vista St, Burbank, CA 91521).
