The 2000 film “Gone In 60 Seconds,” a remake of the 1974 film, was shot primarily in Southern California, with some additional filming in Canada. In the film, Memphis Raines, played by Nicolas Cage, lives in this home, located in San Pedro.

Mirror Man, played by T.J. cross, steals a car at the famous Yamashiro Hollywood restaurant. Originally constructed as a private residence in 1914, it was sold just ten years later. After becoming a boys military school, it wasn’t until 1948 that the building began to be restored to its original appearance. The restaurant has appeared in countless productions, such as “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Breezy,” “Nocturnal Animals”, “Blind Date,” “Playing God,” “Death Wish II,” “Sayonara” and many more . It also appeared in such TV shows as “Perry Mason,” “I Spy,” “Route 66,” “My Three Sons” and more. The restaurant is famous for its views overlooking Hollywood.

Memphis jumps a tow truck on the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro. The bridge has appeared in countless films, such as “Wrath Of Man,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Lethal Weapon 2,” “To Live And Die In L.A.” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “City of Angels,” “Knight of Cups,” “Blind Rage,” “Charlie’s Angels” and more. It has likewise appeared in such TV shows as “Mission: Impossible,” “CHiPs,” “Columbo” and more. It it also where director Tony Scott tragically ended his life.

The 1990 David Lynch film “Wild At Heart,” starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern, filmed in Southern California, New Orleans, Louisiana and El Paso, Texas. The opening scenes were filmed at the MacArthur in Los Angeles, formerly known as the Park Plaza Hotel. No longer a functioning hotel, the MacArthur today serves primarily as a property for hosting filming and special events. However, it is under renovation with apparent plans to open a portion up once again as a hotel in 2022. While we have been inside the hotel, the Grand Staircase seen in the opening was crowded at the time and we weren’t able to get photos the way we wanted. You can find plenty of shots of it online, the staircase is located just through the lobby doors of the main entrance.

We did get better shots inside the restroom of the MacArthur, where Marietta Fortune, played by Diane Ladd, makes a pass at Sailor Ripley, played by Nicolas Cage. The same bathroom has appeared in such films as “Reservoir Dogs” and “Barton Fink.” It has since been remodeled a bit, but remains largely recognizable.
The Pee Dee Correctional Institution, where Sailor is released from prison, is actually the property of the city’s Department of Water and Power.

The 1983 film “Valley Girl,” starring Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage, was largely filmed, as the title suggests, in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. The opening shows a helicopter view past the Hollywood sign, overlooking the San Fernando Valley. There is a popular, public hiking trail that goes up to and behind the sign. The early scenes of Julie, played by Foreman, shopping at the mall with her friends were filmed at the Del Amo Shopping Center in Torrance. The mall has since been heavily remodeled and the food court not only looks nothing like how it appeared in the film, its actually now located in a completely different section of the mall.

The 1987 Coen Brothers film “Raising Arizona” was, as you might have guessed, filmed in Arizona. Early in the film, the recently paroled H.I. McDunnough, played by Nicolas Cage, robs a convenience store, winding up back in jail. The store has since been remodeled, but still remains standing in Phoenix.

The trailer where H.I. and his new wife Ed, played by Holly Hunter, first move after getting married can be found in Scottsdale. In reality, it’s just an empty plot of land, which can be found on the left side where N 136th St dead ends into E Del Timbre Dr.

After discovering they’re unable to have children, H.I. and Ed hear news of a family named Arizona having five children and decide to steal one of them to raise as their own. The home of the Arizonas is a slight challenge to locate and photograph. It is found on the grounds of a luxury resort called The Phoenician. If you travel just briefly up N Phoenician Blvd from E Camelback Rd, you’ll see it on your left. The building, known as the Jokake Inn, has no unique address separate from the large resort grounds, but the GPS coordinates are 33°30’14.1″N 111°57’04.5″W. As you can see in the photo, there is a spot there to u turn out of the property. If you proceed any further, there is a security checkpoint immediately ahead and no other place to turn around without passing through the checkpoint.

After trying to rob a store for some diapers, H.I. is chased by the police. After he is ejected through the front window of a truck, he runs through this house, located in Scottsdate.

Near the end of the film, H.I. battles the bounty hunter Leonard Smalls near this water tower in Scottsdale. Directly across the street was the bank location that Gale and Evelle rob, but it has since been demolished. The buildings and water tower on the opposite side of the road still remain standing, however. This same location appears in the 1986 film “Cobra Mission” (a.k.a. “Operation Nam”).

The 1999 Joel Schumacher film “8MM,” starring Nicolas Cage and Joaquin Phoenix, was filmed all over the U.S., including New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida and California. The porn shop where Tom Welles, played by Nicolas Cage, follows his investigation can be found in Los Angeles. The building really is an adult store.

At Wendover Airfield, located near the border of Nevada and Utah you’ll find one of the planes used in the Nicolas Cage action film “Con Air.” The plane isn’t the only attraction to be seen, however, as the area was also used as one of the major locations of the film.
First, we’ll cover the plane. There were actually several planes used during filming. The plane used during flight scenes has a rather tragic history. After being sold to a variety of owners, both military and private, in 2010 the plane crashed into Mt Healy, Alaska, killing three flight crew on board. However, the Jailbird plane used for filming taxi scenes fared much better and now sits on display at Wendover Airfield and it’s completely free to see. It can be found near the parking lot and while it is surrounded by fencing, during daytime business hours at the nearby museums, the plane is accessible for free to the public. Here are several different views of the plane.

Here is a view inside the plane. The interiors seen in the film were actually a set built at Sunset Las Palmas Studios (1040 N Las Palmas Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038). Nevertheless, we’ve included a few shots inside the plane at Wendover.

Wendover Airfield is still an operational airport, which has a long history dating back to World War II. Bomber groups trained here during the war, which included three Medal of Honor recipients. There’s a museum documenting the history of the airfield, which attracts a lot of tourism. However, our focus is of course on the filming history.
Wendover Airfield has often been used in films, dating back to 1982’s “The Philadelphia Experiment.” “Independence Day,” “Mullholland Falls,” The Core” and Ang Lee’s 2003 version of “The Hulk” all filmed at the airfield as well. The scenic vistas have also been filmed as plates and stock footage in untold numbers of productions. However, arguably the film most widely associated with the airfield is “Con Air.”
The bad news is that all of the filming locations are located away from the main roads, out on the airfield. The good news is, for a fee, you can arrange a personal escort out to the filming locations. Simply look up the Historic Wendover Airfield and reach out to management to arrange a tour. Do not book one of the regular museum tours, as that is a separate attraction and they typically do not venture out to the filming locations. Instead, contact management and tell them exactly what you’re wanting to see and when. They are very friendly and accommodating.
Now we’ll take a look at which scenes filmed at the airfield. Midway through the film, the plane makes a stop at the fictional “Lerner Airfield” for a rendezvous, where the criminals are supposed to change planes and escape the country. When they arrive however, the other plane does not appear to be there, leaving them waiting at the airfield for an extended portion of the film.
The filming area is surrounded by this barbed-wire fencing. In the movie, Steve Buscemi plays a Hannibal Lector like killer named Garland Greene. Garland roams off from the others out past the fencing. Due to the fact the fence runs the entire perimeter, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact spot of the shot, but here is a general view of the fencing.
Garland spots a little girl at a nearby trailer park having tea time in this empty pool. He comes over and joins her.
This is the airstrip where the plane takes off again, dragging a car in tow.
This tower was featured prominently in the film, including when Johnny-23, played by Danny Trejo, warns the others they’ve got company. It’s also where the car crashes into the tower and detaches from the plane. There is a similar looking tower visible from the road near the entrance of Wendover Airfield. That is not the one seen in the film. The filmmakers saw the real tower and had a replica built specifically for the film, which is seen below. It is not visible from the main road.
Vince Larkin, played by John Cusack, stands beside the inept Duncan Malloy near these buildings, as they watch Malloy’s car crash back down to the ground.
Near the end of the film, an action sequence takes place at in a tunnel supposedly located in Las Vegas, as Poe pursues Cyrus The Virus, played by John Malkovich, on a fire truck. This was actually filmed in the Second Street Tunnel in Downtown Los Angeles. The tunnel is a popular filming location, appearing in such films as “Kill Bill,” “Blade Runner,” “The Terminator.” “Independence Day,” “Double Dragon” and many more.

If you’re a filming location fan, we highly encourage a visit to Wendover Airfield. Just be sure to plan a bit in advance with management to confirm you can get an escort out to the locations. It’s well worth the time and expense if you can make the trip.
In the 2003 Ridley Scott film “Matchstick Men,” Roy Waller, played by Nicolas Cage, lives in this Los Angeles home.

The market where Roy shops and takes an interest in the cashier is Fields Market in Canoga Park. In the film, the market is called Cambridge Farms, which was in fact the name of the business at the time, before later changing names. The store is a staple of film and television, appearing in such films as “Bird Box” and “Lady Bird,” as well as such television shows as “Desperate Housewives,” “American Horror Story” and dozens more. It has also been seen in countless commercials and music videos.

John Travolta plays FBI Agent Sean Archer in John Woo’s 1997 action film “Face/Off.” Archer lives with his family at this Pacific Palisades home, right near the ocean. Later in the film, Nicolas Cage’s villainous character, Castor Troy, bearing the face of Sean Archer, comes to his home and begins role-playing as husband and father. The home was destroyed by wildfires in 2025.

Near the climax of the film, Victor Lazarro’s funeral takes place at the Cabrillo Beach Bath House in San Pedro. The Adam Sandler comedy “50 First Dates” also notably shot at the same location.
