Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008)

The 2008 Kevin Smith comedy “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” was filmed primarily around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area. It is not the director’s first time using the city as his backdrop, having previously filmed portions of “Dogma” there as well.

In the opening credits, Miri, played by Elizabeth Banks, is awakened to the sounds of a car crashing in front of the church on the right.

Miri lives with her roommate Zack, played by Seth Rogan, at this home, which is located just across the street from the church.

The exterior of the high school reunion Zack and Miri attend is also located just across the street from their house at 327 Hazelwood Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15207.

Miri works at the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, which horror fans will know well as the shopping mall from George Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead.” Early in the film, Miri is dropped off at this entrance, which is to the left of the movie theater. The area beside the entrance is now a loading dock, so that portion has changed a bit. The parking numbers still match up however, as well as the mall entrance itself, so just look for row 50 on the signs if you’re uncertain. We’ve also provided GPS coordinates below.

Collateral (2004)

The 2004 Michael Mann film “Collateral” takes place during one night in Los Angeles, where production was likewise based. Early in the film, a taxi driver named Max, played by Jamie Foxx, gets gas at this station, which has since been remodeled.

Max picks up Vincent, played by Tom Cruise, who turns out to be a hitman and uses Max to make the rounds as he finds his targets. Vincent’s first stop is this apartment, where he tells Max he’s closing a real estate deal.

He asks Max to go to the alley in the back and wait for him. This is actually a completely different location, where a body suddenly falls on top of Max’s taxi cab.

Yet a third location was featured in the shots looking up at the broken window. It was also used as the interior, where Detective Fanning, played by Mark Ruffalo, later arrives at the scene.

Another alley is featured when Vincent ties Max to the steering wheel as he leaves to kill his next target.

Max honks on the horn for help, but instead attracts some men looking to rob him. They attempt to take Vincent’s briefcase, but he returns to the car and executes the men.

At the end of the film, Max and Annie, played by Jada Pinkett Smith, arrive at the Redondo Beach Station. Director Michael Mann previously used this same station in the opening shots of “Heat.” If you plan to visit this station, the only way to access the platform is by purchasing a fare.

The film ends as Max and Annie make their way out to the street and the train departs.

American Splendor (2003)

The 2003 film “American Splendor” tells the story of local Cleveland, Ohio legend Harvey Pekar and his autobiographical comic book series of the same name. The film was likewise shot primarily around the Cleveland area, with a few additional scenes filmed in New York City and Los Angeles. Harvey, played by Paul Giamatti, lives at this home, located in Lakewood.

Harvey has lunch with famed cartoonist Robert Crumb at Shay’s Restaurant, a local favorite which is still going strong.

Just before Harvey enters a bakery, the Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral is seen in one of the establishing shots. The church was also famously featured in the film “The Deer Hunter.”

The bakery where Harvey runs into an old college classmate is the Elmwood Home Bakery, exactly as depicted in the film. It too is still going strong at the same location nearly twenty years after the film.

Marriage Story (2019)

The 2019 Noah Baumbach film “Marriage Story,” starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, tells the story of a couple whose lives are split between New York City and Los Angeles. Production likewise took place in both cities. Nicole, played by Johansson, visits her mother’s house several times in the film. The home can be found in Altadena.

Charlie rents an apartment in Los Angeles. Both the interior and exterior are seen in the film and both have unfortunately since been remodeled. You can still recognize it as the building, but it looks a bit different now. The interior is where the long argument scene between Nicole and Charlie was filmed.

Sleepless In Seattle (1993)

The 1993 romantic comedy “Sleepless in Seattle,” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, was filmed, as you might guess, in Seattle, Washington, with additional filming in New York City, New York, Baltimore, Maryland and Chicago, Illinois. Annie, played by Meg Ryan, visits her family at this house. The home is mostly obscured from the street by trees and hedges, but if you walk up closer, you can get a clear view.

Sam, played by Tom Hanks, lives at this house, which sits on Lake Union in Seattle. The path which leads to the home is unfortunately gated off and marked as private. You can in fact see the home from the gate, but the views are limited. Here are some aerial views.

This door is seen many times throughout the film, including when Annie eventually visits the residence.

These distinct mailboxes seen in the film really do exist at the location. The area is out near the parking lot and accessible to the public. Sam’s house is just to the right of here.

Sam walks with his friend Jay, played by Rob Reiner, as he discusses setting Sam up on a blind date. They start our near 1st Ave and Stewart St.

They continue walking along 1st Ave and turn down Pine St, when Sam asks Jay to evaluate his butt.

They continue towards the famous Pike Place Market. Sam and Jay have drinks here, where Jay brings Sam up to speed on the modern dating scene. These scenes were filmed at The Athenian Seafood Restaurant and Bar, which is located within Pike Place Market. The two characters sit at the corner of the bar on the right. There are small red plaques on the bar in front of each seat where the characters sat. It’s always nice when places acknowledge their film history in this way, so we highly recommend visiting.

Breezy (1973)

The 1973 Clint Eastwood directed film “Breezy” was shot in Southern California. In the opening scene, Breezy, played by Kay Lenz, leaves the home of Bruno, a man whom she’s slept with but doesn’t remember her name. The title sequence begins as she walks down Rothdell Trail. The road is most famous for also being the one time home of The Doors singer Jim Morrison, who lived with his girlfriend near the bottom of the street and penned the song “Love Street” about Rothdell Trail and the surrounding neighborhood.

While very little of the exterior of Bruno’s home is seen in the film, this is the only property there from the top corner Breezy starts down.

Breezy continues down Rothdell Trail. While the street has changed a bit since filming took place, it is still very recognizable overall.

Breezy walks over the the iconic Canyon Country Store. This is all geographically accurate and you can walk the exact same route seen in the film, if you’re so inclined.

The Canyon Country Store is referred to specifically in “Love Street” as “this store where the creatures meet.” At the height of the 1960s counterculture movement, the Canyon Country Store served as a meeting place for musicians, such as Joni Mitchel, David Crosby and Mama Cass Elliot, all of whom penned songs about the neighborhood, with the latter even living in the basement of the store for a period. The store also appeared in the John Carpenter film “The Fog.” The store is still open today and remains a popular spot for locals.

Breezy hitchhikes next to the parking lot of the store, where a strange man picks her up.

Frank, played by William Holden, lives at this home, located in Tarzana. Breezy first meets Frank outside the home and much of the film takes place here. The home has since been remodeled, but the unique triangle design is still very identifiable. In fact, the home is sometimes referred to as the “Triangle House.” While the home is unfortunately not visible from the street, here is an aerial view. Frank has lunch with Betty, played by Marj Dusay, at the famous Yamashiro Hollywood restaurant. Originally constructed as a private residence in 1914, it was sold just ten years later. After becoming a boys military school, it wasn’t until 1948 that the building began to be restored to it’s original appearance. The restaurant has appeared in countless productions, such as “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” “Nocturnal Animals”, “Blind Date,” “Playing God,” “Death Wish II,” “Sayonara” and many more . It also appeared in such TV shows as “Perry Mason,” “I Spy,” “Route 66,” “My Three Sons” and more. The restaurant is famous for it’s views overlooking Hollywood.

License To Kill (1989)

The 1989 James Bond film “License to Kill,” starring Timothy Dalton, was filmed in the Florida Keys and Mexico. In the opening scenes, Bond can be seen riding across the famous Seven Mile Bridge. The location is also featured in an action sequence when Franz Sanchez, played by Robert Davi, stages a daring escape. The same location was also featured in the films “True Lies,” “Key Largo,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Up Close & Personal,” “CrissCross” and “The Triangle,” as well as the TV series “Burn Notice.”

There are two bridges, built to connect Knight’s Key to Little Duck Key. The one on the right, originally known as the Knights Key-Pigeon Key-Moser Channel-Pacet Channel Bridge, is now commonly referred to as the Old Seven Mile Bridge. It was constructed from 1909 to 1912 and eventually decommissioned in favor of a new bridge, seen on the left, which was completed in 1982 for vehicular traffic. A portion of the Old Seven Mile Bridge is still open to pedestrian traffic and cyclists. However, it has been under reconstruction since 2017 and is expected to reopen by the end of 2021.

The owners are clearly fans of the film, as the house address is designed as an homage to the iconic “007” logo.

Bond meets with M at the Ernest Hemingway House, which is the real location where the legendary author once lived in the 1930s. The home was designated a national historic landmark in 1968 and is open to public tours.

Here is the area where Bond meets M and has his license to kill revoked.

An armed guard is posted at the lighthouse across the street, known as the Key West Lighthouse (938 Whitehead St, Key West, FL 33040). Bond becomes a rogue agent and escapes.

Bond arrives by boat at the Barrelhead Bar to meet Pam Bouvier, played by Carey Lowell. They get into an altercation with Dario, played by a young Benicio Del Toro. The building is currently a restaurant.

Short Circuit (1986)

The 1986 sci-fi comedy “Short Circuit” was filmed in Oregon, Washington and California. The house of Stephanie, played by Ally Sheedy, can be found in Astoria, Oregon. Astoria is well known for many iconic filming locations, such as “The Goonies,” “Kindergarten Cop,” “Free Willy” and more. The house overlooks the Astoria-Megler Bridge, which is featured in another scene where the robot Number 5 is pushed by a military vehicle and falls off the bridge, leading him to meet Stephanie.

The climactic confrontation with NOVA takes place at the iconic Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce, California. The rock formation has has been featured in countless films, such as “Dante’s Peak,” “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Hail, Caesar!,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Paul,” “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” and dozens more.  Television shows which featured Vasquez Rocks include “The Fugutive,” “The A-Team,” “MacGuyver” and perhaps most famous of all, the original “Star Trek” series.
