The 2007 Farrelly Brothers comedy “The Heartbreak Kid” was filmed in both Northern and Southern California, as well as in Mexico. The opening shot of the film takes place on the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco.

Eddie, played by Ben Stiller, has pie with Lila, played by Malin Akerman. The interiors were filmed at the former Quality Cafe in Downtown Los Angeles. The cafe was a one-time staple of films, appearing in “Seven,” “Training Day,” “Ghost World,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Another Day In Paradise,” “(500) Days Of Summer” “Million Dollar Baby,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and dozens more. However, it was not an actual restaurant open to the public. Instead it was used solely for filming (much like Johnie’s Coffee Shop in mid-town L.A.). Unless the building was being set up for a production, most of the time it was closed up and locked by a large metal door covering the front windows. So catching a glimpse of it was rare. Sadly, it ceased to function as a filming location and was completely renovated in 2014. The interior of the property no longer bears any resemblance inside to how it appeared in so many films.

Late in the film, Eddie sneaks back into the United States from Mexico, in search of Miranda, played by Michelle Monaghan. He visits her parents’ house, supposedly located in Mississippi. The real home can be found in Pasadena.

Eddie then finds Miranda’s house, also supposedly located in Mississippi but actually found in Pasadena.

The filming angles were clearly chosen as to avoid showing the mountains and palm trees in the distance.
The classic 1994 comedy “Dumb and Dumber” is primarily set in the cities of Providence, Rhode Island and Aspen, Colorado. However, aside from some brief road clips and establishing shots, the production took place in neither city. The majority of the production took place around Salt Lake City, Utah and Northeast Colorado.
In the opening scene, Lloyd, played by Jim Carrey, pulls up in a limousine and attempts to talk up an Austrian lady standing on this corner. The street sign says Hope St, but the real location is at the intersection of 700 S and 200 W in Salt Lake City.

The building the woman stands in front of has since been completely remodeled. Some tracks have also been added to the street for trolleys. However, the building on the opposite side of the street, seen in the background of several shots, still bears some resemblance to how it appeared in the film.
Also worth noting, this same intersection is used in another scene in the film, when Lloyd is driving Mary to the airport and turns around to talk, with his back to the road as he blows through a red light. He is driving down W 700 S and the same building can be seen on the left side of the frame.
During the opening credits, Harry, played by Jeff Daniels, is introduced driving the “Shaggin’ Wagon,” a van decorated like a dog to promote his grooming business, “Mutt Cutts.” After stopping off for hot dogs to feed his van full of dogs, he races through the city late for a dog show. He is seen passing this intersection.

Harry is seen again turning at this intersection, which is actually the same location as the shot above, facing the opposite direction.
Lloyd meets Mary Swanson, played by Lauren Holly, as he picks her up at her house, supposedly located in Providence. Mary’s house can be found on the grounds of La Caille, where several other scenes in the film were also shot, which we’ll cover later in this article. La Caille is a scenic area that is used for a variety of purposes. In addition to a restaurant, the property regularly hosts wedding photography and also has many guest houses around the grounds. Of all the filming locations on La Caille, Mary’s house is the most difficult to access. It is one of the guest houses on the grounds, often occupied by visitors who pay to stay in the home. The driveway leading down to the house is gated and marked as private. However, it is still possible to see a bit of the house from the gate, including the front door where the scene takes place.

Harry nearly runs down a jogger at this intersection, as he continues racing to the dog show.

Harry speeds down Technology Way in the city of Orem, Utah, where he jumps the truck in the air. The trees have grown significantly in the years since the film was shot, obscuring most of the background. However, just enough of the house in the distance remains visible enough to match it up with the film.

Here is a wider view of the street. It’s not as steep as it appears in the film. Low angles and the use of a ramp make it look like much bigger dip in the road. Technology Way is a very short road, with the jump filmed on the side nearest to E 1600 N St.
Harry finally arrives with the dogs for Mrs. Neugeboren at Palmer Court housing development in Salt Lake City.

Harry opens the back of the van to reveal the dogs, covered in ketchup and mustard from his reckless driving.
Lloyd drops of Mary at the airport, supposedly located in Providence. It’s actually the Salt Lake City International Airport. The airport has since been remodeled, so these views can no longer be matched up.

Harry and Lloyd’s apartment exterior can also be found in Salt Lake City. Known as the Smith Apartments, the building has changed very little since filming took place and is immediately recognizable. The interior of the apartment was a set at Osmond Studios in Orem, Utah, which has since closed.

Harry and Lloyd escape from around this corner, mistakenly believing they are avoiding the gas man for late payments. As they turn the corner, a man can be seen in the background urinating against the brick wall of the neighboring building.
Here is where the blind boy, “Billy in 4C,” sits stroking the dead bird Petey that Lloyd sold him.
The scene where Lloyd gets robbed by an old lady was filmed just a few buildings down from Harry and Lloyd’s apartment. The building has unfortunately since been remodeled and the scene mostly just showed a sidewalk and wall anyways, so it may not look too recognizable. This stretch of sidewalk is where the scene took place, however.

Mary’s parents’ house in “Aspen” is actually located in Park City, Utah, the same town where the Sundance Film Festival famously takes place each year. You have to travel up a mountain to see it. There are many beautiful houses and majestic mountain views in the area.

Lloyd has a fantasy as he drives about striking up a romance with Mary. He arrives at this “house,” which is actually the La Caille restaurant in Sandy, Utah. It’s on the same grounds as Mary’s “Providence” house where she first meets Lloyd.

As Lloyd’s fantasy continues, he hosts a party in the same location. The room and fireplace in the scene are located on the second floor of the La Caille restaurant. There was one other scene shot on the grounds of La Caille, which was set at the pond. It was ultimately deleted from the film, however.
Harry and Lloyd stay at the honeymoon suite of The Second Time Is Best Motel. The exterior is actually the M-Star Hotel in Heber City, Utah. The interior was a set at the former Osmond Studios in Orem, Utah.

Harry and Lloyd have burgers with Mental at Dante’s Inferno. The building is now the American Legion Post in Ogden, Utah. While in Ogden, be sure to check out the swimming pool from “The Sandlot.”

The scene where Harry fills his van with gas, spilling fuel from under the dog’s leg was filmed at a former gas station in West Valley City (6381 W 2100 S, West Valley City, UT 84128). The gas station has since been completely removed and a trucking company has taken it’s place.
Lloyd stops off at a convenience store, where he sees some guys drinking big gulps. The building, now a lending company, is also located in Ogden.

This building seen across the street still matches up perfectly with the film.
The exterior of the snow owl benefit, supposedly located in Aspen, is the Devereaux Mansion in Salt Lake City.

The interior of the snow owl benefit scene was shot just across the street from the Devereaux Mansion, inside the Grand Hall of the former Union Pacific Depot, which is now a property called The Getaway. The Grand Hall is actually open to the public, but it has limited daily hours, so if you plan a visit, just be sure you go when it’s open. The far wall underneath the train mural, just left of the doorway is where the bar was set up in the film. The hall is quite large, so it was blocked from limited angles in order to be scaled down for the film.

Nicholas, the man behind the kidnapping of Mary’s husband, stays at this house in Kamas, Utah. Although the residence is in Kamas, it’s actually just a few blocks away from Mary’s parents’ house in Park City.
The opening of the 1998 comedy “There’s Something About Mary” famously begins with a guitarist and drummer sitting in a tree, singing the opening theme. The tree, supposedly located in front of a high school in Rhode Island, can actually be found in Plantation, Florida. The tree remains alive and well in front of the Plantation City Hall, albeit with a few less branches.

The branch the drummer sat on has since been removed, but the lowest, curved branch on the left of the foreground tree is the one the singer sat on.
At the conclusion of the song, the camera then pans down to a young Ted, played by Ben Stiller. He stands in this grass immediately to the right of the tree. The same area is where Mary, played by Cameron Diaz, meets Ted after he breaks up a confrontation between Mary’s brother Warren and an angry jock.
The high school itself is no school at all, rather the aforementioned Plantation City Hall.

Mary’s house can be found south of Miami in the town of Coral Gables. The house and yard have since changed a bit. Some of those changes include doorways and a different railing added on the second level, as well as the front yard converted into a large driveway with a gate.
There’s now a wall along the front of the property, but it’s not difficult to see over.
After a humiliating zipper accident on the day of the prom, Ted loses touch with Mary. Now well into adulthood, Ted still can’t get her off his mind and decides to travel to Florida to try to find her. Joined by his friend Dom, played by Chris Elliott, the two track Mary down at her Miami workplace. The two hide behind this art sculpture and Dom shouts Mary’s name, forcing Ted to approach and talk to her.

Mary stands on these stairs with her brother Warren. The address is Brickell Ave, but you have to go to the back side of the building along the water to find the areas seen in the film.
Ted successfully scores a date with Mary and gets a room at the Cardoza Hotel in Miami Beach. This is where the infamous hair gel scene takes place.

Mary’s apartment, one of the key locations of the film, has unfortunately since been demolished, with high rise condos now in it’s place. It was formerly located at 2066 N Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33137. However, in the closing scenes of the film, the two stand on the street in front of her apartment, facing the water. This area remains similar to how it appeared in the film.

The 1996 Farrelly Brothers comedy “Kingpin” was shot mostly around Pennsylvania, but like many Farrelly Bothers films, it becomes something of a road trip movie, reaching Reno, Nevada by the film’s climax. In the opening scene of the film, a young Roy Munson practices bowling with his father at the Munson Service Center. The scene is supposedly set in Ocelot, Iowa. It was actually filmed in Mars, Pennsylvania.

Roy bowls with his father at the side of the building, using a homemade lane and bowling pins.
Roy’s father sees him off at P.J.’s Soft Serve. The building was in poor condition when the filmmakers first found it. It is shown in this state when Roy, played by Woody Harrelson, returns to his home town later in the film. The production then fixed it up for the early scenes. The building has since been completely demolished, with a different one now standing in its place, but the surrounding areas still match up. This is located one mile from the Munson Service Center, on the same road.

After winning a bowling tournament, Roy takes his car to a mechanic, who tells him someone put sugar in his gas tank. This scene was filmed just a few buildings down from the Munson Service Center and is easily within walking distance.

Only a small part of the building is seen in the film. However, this house across the street is also seen in the background of the scene, confirming the location.
“Big Ern” McCracken, played by Bill Murray, hustles some local bowlers and Roy finds himself in over his head. As they exit the bowling alley, they are confronted by the guys they’ve hustled. Big Ern lets Roy take the fall, as he speeds off and abandons him at the Beaver Valley Bowl in Rochester, with Roy losing his hand in the process. This same location was used in the Michael Douglas film “Wonder Boys” and the TV series “I Am Not Okay With This.”

The home of Roy Munson is supposedly located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The real building is actually located in the town of Trafford. Roy’s neighbors sit outside and complain about life, while his landlady lives next door as well. The building has been slightly updated, but is still very recognizable from how it appeared in the film.

Later in the film, Roy stages a purse snatching on his landlady, in which he rescues her in hopes she’ll cut him a break on his late rent.
Right around the corner from Roy’s apartment was another scene from the film. Roy helps a mother get her stroller up on the sidewalk and then steals the baby’s milk for his coffee.

Roy first meets Amish bowler Ishmael, played by Randy Quaid, at the Lancaster Bowl. This scene was actually filmed at Mars Lanes, located right across the street from the Munson Service Center.

Ishmael lives at this farm, where Roy tries to persuade him to become business partners. Ishmael’s farm can be found in Fombell. The long path leading down to the farm is located at the intersection of Harvest Ln / PA-288.
When Roy first approaches Ishmael, who is riding his bicycle on the left side of the road, the barn on the right can be seen in the background. This is the same location as above, facing toward PA-288 (also known as Zelienople Rd).
After Ishmael loses a bowling match to a club player, Roy nearly decides to abandon their partnership. They stop on PA-528 (also known as Prospect Rd), where Roy quickly changes his mind and tells Ishmael he was just testing him.

Depending on the map you use, this area may be listed as Slippery Rock, Prospect or Lake Arthur. It is located near the Frank W. Preston Conservation Area.
Roy and Ishmael unsuccessfully attempt to run the same hustle that cost Roy his hand at the former McKnight Lanes in Pittsburgh. The bowling alley has long since closed.

Roy and Claudia, played by Vanessa Angel, get into an argument the Jolly Jumper Motel, prompting Ishmael to run away. These scenes were filmed at 100 Blue Spruce Way, Murrysville, PA 15668, but the building has since been demolished.
Roy and Claudia go in search of him at Uncle Willees Reptile Farm, where a rattlesnake bites the owner in the face. The real building is a restaurant known as Willees Tavern and has operated for more than 80 years. The filmmakers clearly gave a nod to the real establishent when naming their fictional reptile farm. It is not far from the early locations seen in the film, such as the Munson Service Center and P.J.’s Soft Serve.

For the film’s climax, Roy and Big Ern square off at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada. The lanes are not open to public use, but there is a bowling museum inside that is open to the public, for those interested.
