The 2015 film “The Gift,” starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Joel Edgerton, was shot in Southern California. The home of Simon and Robyn Callem, played by Bateman and Hall, can be found in Sherman Oaks.

The largely forgotten 1997 sequel “Home Alone 3” was filmed, much like the original movie, in the suburbs north of Chicago. The Pruitt family house can be found in Evanston, Illinois.

The Hidden (1987)

The 1987 sci-fi detective film “The Hidden” was shot around Los Angeles, California. The opening bank robbery scene was filmed in Downtown L.A. at the Citigroup Center.  This same location has appeared in countless films, such as “Heat,” “Fight Club,” “To Live And Die In L.A.” and more.

The chase proceeds to Grand Lower.  This is a popular area for both filming and photography.  It has been featured in countless films, including “The Terminator,” “Robocop,” “Demolition Man,” “Cobra,” “Batman Forever,” “Repo Man,” “Double Dragon,” “Whore” and many more.  It was also featured in the TV series “Westworld.”

Senator Holt is targeted at the MacArthur, formerly known as the Park Plaza Hotel. No longer a functioning hotel, the MacArthur today serves primarily as a property for hosting filming and special events.  However, it is under renovation with apparent plans to open a portion up once again as a hotel. It has been featured in many films, such as “Wild At Heart,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Drive,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Bobby,” “Gangster Squad,” “Tango & Cash,” “The Naked Gun” and many more.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

While the 1999 Stanley Kubrick film “Eyes Wide Shut” takes place in New York City, most of the film was shot in England. There are, however, several quick exterior establishing shots that were filmed in New York, such as the home of Dr. William Harford and Alice Harford, played by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

The Harfords attend a party at the home of Victor Ziegler, played by Sydney Pollack.

The mansion where the orgy takes place was a composite of three locations. The exterior was filmed at Mentmore Towers, Mentmore, Leighton Buzzard LU7 0QH, UK, which has also appeared in the films “Batman Begins” and “Brazil.” The interiors were filmed at the privately owned Elveden Hall, 9MPH+3V, Thetford IP24 3TA, UK, which has also appeared in such films as “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” “Stardust,” “Jupiter Ascending” and “The Living Daylights.” The front gate was a set built and filmed on the grounds of the Transport Research Laboratory, Crowthorne House, Nine Mile Ride, Crowthorne, Wokingham RG40 3GA, UK (GPS coordinates: 51°22’55.5″N, 0°46’38.8″W).

Late in the film, Dr. Harford goes to the hospital to check on Mandy.

The Nice Guys (2016)

The 2016 Shane Black film “The Nice Guys,” starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, takes place in Los Angeles in 1977. Much of the filming took place in Southern California, with some additional filming in Atlanta, Georgia. The opening shot is seen behind the Hollywood sign.  There is a public hiking trail that goes up to and behind the sign.  The sign itself is heavily monitored by security.

Early in the film, Jackson Healy, played by Russell Crowe, beats up a man at this house, which can be found in the View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. The house has since been remodeled a bit. This same home is briefly seen in “Lords Of Dogtown.”

The Hollywood First National Bank Building is briefly seen as a radio announcer repeats a smog advisory. The same building also appears in the film “Twins“, as well as briefly in the background of a rooftop scene in “Reservoir Dogs.”

Healy and March encounter Amelia’s protest group on the stairs of City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. The building has been featured in endless films, such as “They Live,” “L.A. Confidential,” “Liar Liar,” “Ray,” “Fracture,” “Gangster Squad,” “Impulse,” L.A. Bounty” and more.

Healy and March meet with Amelia’s mother, played by Kim Basinger, at The John Ferraro Building in Downtown L.A. It has been featured in countless films and television shows, such as “Inception,” “Hancock,” “The Omega Man” and more.

The empty plot of land where Holly reads alone can be found in Baldwin Hills.

The Dreamers (2003)

The 2003 Bernardo Bertolucci film “The Dreamers” was shot in Paris, France. In the opening scene of the film, Matthew, played by Michael Pitt, is seen approaching a movie theater, which was filmed at the Palais de Chaillot. Bertolucci previously filmed at this same location, only from the reverse angle, in “The Conformist.”

The bridge he is seen approaching on, Pont d’Iéna, connects between the Eiffel Tower and Palais de Chaillot, making it an extremely popular and crowded tourist destination.

The area where the protest is staged and Matthew meets Isabelle and Theo, played by Eva Green and Louis Garrel, was blocked off and inaccessible at the time of our visit.

The characters attempt to break the world record for fastest time running through the Louvre Museum, as depicted in the 1964 film “Band of Outsiders.” The same location is featured in both films.

Uncle Buck (1989)

The 1989 John Hughes comedy “Uncle Buck,” like most Hughes’ films, was shot around the Chicago suburbs. In the film, Uncle Buck, played by John Candy, comes to babysit the kids at the Russell residence, which can be found in Evanston, where the director also filmed scenes for “Sixteen Candles” and “She’s Having A Baby.”

Pearl Harbor (2001)

The 2001 Michael Bay film “Pearl Harbor” was primarily filmed in Hawaii, Southern California and England. In the film, Rafe McCawley, played by Ben Affleck, is accompanied by Danny Walker, played by Josh Hartnett, as he departs a train station to join the front lines of the war in England. These scenes were filmed at Union Station, a train station in Downtown Los Angeles.  It has been featured in many films, such as “Blade Runner” “Catch Me If You Can,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Species,” “To Live And Die In L.A.,” “Bugsy,” “Nick of Time,” “The Replacement Killers,” “Mike’s Murder,” “The Way We Were,” “Union Station,” “Under the Rainbow” and more.

LOCATION: 800 N Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

The scenes where Doolittle, played by Alec Baldwin, prepares his pilots to fly short takeoffs were filmed at the north hangar of the Marine Corps Air Station Tustin (72-7 Tustin Ranch Rd, Irvine, CA 92606). There are two hangers located at the air station, which closed back in 1999 and has since been used in many productions, such as the 2009 version of “Star Trek,” “The Hindenburg,” “The Man’s Navy” and “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.” It also appeared in Michael Jackson’s music video for “Hold My Hand,” as well as countless commercials. In 2023, a fire destroyed the north hanger. However, the south hanger, which has been seen in such TV shows as “The X-Files” and “From the Earth to the Moon,” was unaffected by the fire and remains standing.

Evelyn Johnson, played by Kate Beckinsale, leaves a movie theater after she is upset by one of the newsreels. This scene was filmed at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, California. The same theater also appeared in many other films, including “Zodiac,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Babylon,” “Seabiscut,” “Remote Control,” “Win A Date With Tad Hamilton,” “Ghosts Of Mississippi,” “Boys And Girls,” “Live By Night,” “Worth Winning,” “Mark Of Love,” “Invasion Earth: The Aliens Are Here” and “From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks.” It has also appeared in such television series as “The O.C.,” “Party Of Five,” “Melrose Place,” “T.J.Hooker,” “7th Heaven” and “Cousin Skeeter.”

Japanese planes are seen approaching Hawaii near Kualoa Regional Park, with a small island known as Mokolii seen on the right. It is a popular photo spot for tourists and very close to the house from “50 First Dates.”

A man is seen riding a motorcycle towards a bunker, where the planes are first detected by American radar. This scene was filmed at Kualoa Ranch in O’ahu. The ranch offers tours and this area can be seen on their film tour. Inside are many props and displays showcasing the many filmed shot at the ranch over the years.

The Japanese planes are also seen passing this area, which is also part of Kualoa Ranch. Kualoa Ranch has been featured in dozens of films, such as “Jurassic Park,” “Jurassic World,” “Triple Frontier” and many more, as well as the television show “Lost.”

Notting Hill (1999)

The 1999 romantic comedy “Notting Hill,” starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, was filmed in London, with many scenes of course taking place in the titular neighborhood on the city’s west side. The book store owned by William Thacker (Grant) is one of the most popular filming locations in all of England. Already a popular neighborhood for tourists, there was a crowded street market also taking place on the day of our visit, with many obstructions, which made it a challenge getting clear angles of the store.

While the store was based on a real book store, it was located at a different location in the same neighborhood (13-15 Blenheim Cres, London W11 2EE, UK), which has long since closed. At the time of filming, the storefront featured in the film was actually an antique shop, but has since become a general souvenir and gift shop, re-named to mirror the film’s store name.

There is a large image for the film in the front window.

The flat of William Thacker, which he shares with Spike, played by Rhys Ifans, is located just a couple blocks away from the book store location. The famous blue door where Spike answers in his underwear is also quite a popular tourist destination. It was likewise a challenge getting a photograph here without continuous crowds approaching to get their own shots.

Starship Troopers (1997)

In the 1997 Paul Verhoeven film “Starship Troopers,” the characters attend school at the Buenos Aires Education Center. These scenes were actually filmed at a medical center in Baldwin Park, California.  A different area of the same facility was seen in the movie “Face/Off.”

The soldiers set up base camp at Vasquez Rocks.  One of the most popular filming locations in all of California, the iconic rocks have appeared in such films as “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” “The Flintstones,” “Dante’s Peak,” “Jingle All The Way,” “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Hail, Caesar!,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Paul” and dozens more.  Television shows which featured Vasquez Rocks in episodes include “The Fugutive,” “The A-Team,” “MacGuyver” and perhaps most famous of all, the original “Star Trek” series, where the rocks were seen in numerous episodes, serving as multiple different planets. The rocks have also been seen in music videos for Michael Jackson, 311 and many more, as well as countless commercials.
