The 2006 comedy “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny,” starring Jack Black and Kyle Gass, was filmed in Southern California. The film opens at the childhood home of JB, played by Jack Black, supposedly located in Kickapoo, Missouri. The real home can be found in Los Angeles.

The exterior of the club the band performs at is located in Long Beach. However, most of the shots of the back area seen in the film can no longer be lined up easily anymore, as the bar has since erected an outdoor seating canopy and surrounded it in fencing.

JB and KG, played by Kyle Gass, stop for food at the Halfway House Cafe in Santa Clarita. The same location has appeared in many productions, such as “Waitress,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Space Cowboys,” “The Twilight Zone: The Movie” and “Westworld.” The cafe also appeared in a famous commercial starring Cindy Crawford.

The 1996 Jim Carrey comedy “The Cable Guy” was filmed in Southern California. The exterior of this building was used as the apartment of Steven Kovacs, played by Matthew Broderick. The same building has appeared in many films, including “Changeling,” “Twins,” “American Pie 2,” “Ouija,” “Oujia: Origin of Evil,” “Annabelle: Creation,” “The Ring 2,” “Puppet Master II,” “Truth or Dare,” “Where Sleeping Dogs Lie,” “Species III” and many more. It has also appeared in numerous TV shows, such as “Westworld,” “You,” “American Crime Story,” “Teen Wolf,” “Bosch: Legacy” and more.

The memorable scene at Medieval Times, where Chip, played by Carrey, challenges Steven to a battle was filmed in Buena Park. It is a real establishment still in operation.
The 1990s skating classic “Airborne” was primarily filmed around Cincinnati, Ohio and just across the Ohio River into Kentucky, with a few additional scenes filmed in Southern California. In the film, Mitchell Goosen, played by Shane McDermott, uproots from his Southern California home to Cincinnati to stay with his cousin’s family, while his parents work abroad. His cousin is Wiley, played by a young Seth Green. Wiley’s home can be found in the town of Newport, Kentucky, which is just a short distance away from Cincinnati over the state border.

Mitchell begins attending school at Western Hills University High School, where he struggles to fit in with the other boys, but catches the interest of a girl named Nikki, played by Brittney Powell.

Mitchell ends up taking Nikki on a date to the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati. Mitchell skates around inside the conservatory, which hasn’t changed all that much since filming took place. The property does charge an admission fee, but is open to the public.

Mitchell and Nikki end up on another date along the riverfront of the Ohio River, with the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge and Cincinnati skyline in the background. This area is known as Covington Plaza, but it has been remodeled a bit and the area where the characters stand in the film was actually off to the left of Covington Plaza. The same location appears in the film “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”

Mitchell and Wiley go on a double date at this restaurant in Newport, Kentucky, where Nikki’s brother Jack, played by Chris Conrad, spoils their evening. Outside, Mitchell and Wiley get into an argument. Inside, there is a sign for the film, featuring autographs from the cast and crew, but it was closed at the time of our visit. The same restaurant was famously featured in the film “Rain Man.”

The parking lot hockey game, where Mitchell finally wins over his classmates, was filmed at the Longworth Hall Parking Lot in Cincinnati.

This climax of the film is when Mitchell’s classmates are challenged by a rival crew to an inline skating race down what is known as “Devils Backbone.” While there is a real Devils Backbone Rd in Cincinnati, the version seen in the film is a composite of multiple roads scattered around Cincinnati and Kentucky. The race first begins on the street in front of 7012 Springdale Rd Cincinnati, OH 45247 and continues past this intersection.

The 2006 romantic comedy “The Holiday,” tells the story of two women, one from England, the other from Los Angeles, who decide to swap homes for a two week holiday. Production likewise took place around England and Los Angeles. Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz, owns this home, located in San Marino. Iris, played by Kate Winslet, takes residence here while on holiday.

The cottage where Iris lives was a set built on an empty field in Shere, Guildford, England, which was demolished after filming. The approximate GPS coordinates are 51°13’06.1″N, 0°27’38.4″W. Several backgrounds of the small village can still be matched up, however.
The 2011 film version of “The Muppets” was shot primarily in the Los Angeles area. The opening dance number, set it “Smalltown USA,” was filmed on the Warner Bros. Studios Lot.

The Muppets studio was filmed at the real Jim Henson Company in Hollywood. It is the former site of Charlie Chaplin’s studios. Old photos of Chaplin standing outside can be found online, with much of the buildings still looking the same.

The interior of Kermit’s mansion was filmed at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. While the outside of the Greystone grounds is open daily and free to the public, opportunities to tour inside are somewhat rare. The property is owned by the City of Beverly Hills and regularly accommodates productions and private events. Therefore, only a few times a year is access to the inside of the estate possible. Planning ahead is required if you’d like to see inside.

The office of Tex Richman, played by Chris Cooper, can be found in Downtown Los Angeles. The same building was seen in such films as “Barbie,” “Night Of The Comet,” “Cutter’s Way” and “Pretty Woman.”
While much of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” was filmed in Hawaii, Alex’s house from the beginning of the film can be found in the Ansley Park Sherwood Forest neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s located in the same neighborhood as Liz’s house in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
