Christine (1983)

In the 1983 John Carpenter adaption of the Stephen King novel, “Christine,” the director returned to his old South Pasadena stomping grounds, where he famously shot “Halloween.”  Those locations can be found in the same proximity as the exterior of the house where Arnie lives in “Christine.”

When people think of the film “Christine,” the first thing that comes to mind is of course the killer car.  The film follows a possessed Plymouth Fury as it wreaks havoc on it’s owner and those around him.  24 total Plymouth Fury vehicles were acquired for use in the film.  This was one of two stunt cars, which can be found at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California.  At the end of the production, the vehicle was set to be destroyed.  However, a buyer stepped in and rescued the car, using parts from other screen-used “Christine” vehicles and restored it back to it’s original condition.

The Munsters

Though it has changed quite a bit over the years, the house from the classic 1960s TV series “The Munsters” can still be seen today.  Located on the Universal Studios Backlot, the house has since been used for a variety of productions, including the television series “Coach,” “Dragnet,” and “Desperate Housewives.”  As often happens with studio backlots, depending on the style of the production, the facade was remodeled to fit their needs.  However, the basic structure still loosely resembles how it appeared on the show.  The house can be found on Colonial Street as part of the Universal Studios Hollywood Tour.

One of the frat houses where a party takes place was filmed at a property known as The Beckett Mansion, located in the West Adams neighborhood.  The house actually operates as an event space and filming location year round.  The same house has been featured in Rob Zombie’s “Halloween,” “True Romance,” “No Strings Attached” and many more.  It’s also located directly across the street from the house from “The People Under The Stairs.”

Mohandas Gandhi

After Mohandas Gandhi was tragically assassinated in his native India, his ashes were scattered throughout the rivers and seas of India, save for a small portion that made their way to Southern California.  At the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine, you can find a shrine dedicated to Gandhi.  The Self-Realization Fellowship was founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, a longtime admirer of Gandhi.  His friend, a publisher and journalist from India, named Dr. V.M. Nawle, sent Yogananda the ashes.  Yogananda had the ashes encased in a thousand-year-old stone sarcophagus from China, which cannot be opened without breaking it.  The shrine is free of charge to visit and exists as the only place in the world, outside of India, to contain some of Gandhi’s remains.

Clueless (1995)

The 1995 teen comedy “Clueless” was filmed in Southern California. In the movie, Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone, lives at this house in Encino. The pool and back yard are also seen in the film.

LOCATION: 5148 Louise Ave, Encino, CA 91316

There are also public real estate listings available online for the house, offering more detailed looks around the property, including interior views, where scenes from the film also shot.

Dionne, played by Stacey Dash, lives at this home in Beverly Hills. The view from the street has unfortunately since become increasingly obscured by trees and shrubs.

LOCATION: 705 Sierra Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210

The house where the party in the Valley takes place has unfortunately since been completely remodeled and no longer appears anything like it did in the film.

Cher finds herself being mugged at gunpoint in front of this liquor store. Her assailant then asks her to get on the ground, which she protests for not wanting to ruin her fashionable dress.  The liquor store is Circus Liquor, known for it’s giant clown sign, which can be found in North Hollywood, California.  It can also be seen in Larry Clark’s “Ken Park,” the 2005 remake of “The Bad News Bears” and Snoop Dogg’s music video for “Murder Was the Case.”

Cheers

The exterior of the bar seen in the hit TV series “Cheers” can be found in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, just across from the Boston Public Garden.  Originally known as the Bull & Finch Pub, the bar/restaurant has since changed it’s name to Cheers Beacon Hill.  The interiors of the show were of course filmed on a sound stage, not the actual restaurant, but the exterior still closely resembles how it appeared in the show.
