The 1993 romantic comedy “Sleepless in Seattle,” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, was filmed, as you might guess, in Seattle, Washington, with additional filming in New York City, New York, Baltimore, Maryland and Chicago, Illinois. Annie, played by Meg Ryan, visits her family at this house. The home is mostly obscured from the street by trees and hedges, but if you walk up closer, you can get a clear view.

The 1999 teen comedy “10 Things I Hate About You,” starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, was filmed around Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. In the opening scenes of the film, the Seattle skyline is shown from Kerry Park. The park is a famous tourist spot, which attracts a lot of visitors. The park was also featured in the films “Life or Something Like It,” “A Guy Thing” and “The Details,” with this same view also serving as the drawing of the Seattle skyline on the television show “Frasier.”

One of the primary locations of the film is the high school, which is Stadium High School in Tacoma. The exterior and interior are featured in numerous scenes throughout the course of the film. Here we’ll cover a few of the highlights. Early in the film, Michael, played by David Krumholtz, gives Cameron, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a tour of the school and a breakdown of all the social dynamics. The front entrance of the school is seen as Cameron is enamored with Bianca, played by Larisa Oleynik.

During the end credits of the film, a band is seen performing on the roof of the school.

After Kat and Bianca’s father issues a rule that Bianca can only date if Kat does first, Cameron hatches a plan to get Patrick to date Kat, in turn opening the doors for Cameron to date Bianca. Cameron and Bianca visit the Fremont Troll in Seattle to discuss Kat’s personal tastes and how to win her over. The troll was built in 1990, led by the efforts of the Fremont Arts Council, as a way to revitalize the area. Not all GPS systems are great at navigating to the sculpture, perhaps because it sits beneath Aurora Ave N. The sculpture can be found at the intersection of N 36th St and Troll Ave N. Navigating to Troll’s Knoll Park, which is directly to the left, is another good way to get to the correct area. The troll is a tourist attraction and usually early mornings are your best bet if you’re wanting sparse crowds. By afternoon and evening, it’s usually surrounded by people lining up to get pictures. The sculpture also appeared in the film “Love Happens” and the TV show “Once Upon a Time.”

Kat and Patrick play a game of paintball at Gas Works Park in Seattle. At one time the area was a gas plant, but it ceased operations in 1956, when the city converted to natural gas. Some of the structures were left in tact and the area now serves as a public park.

The same park has appeared in the films “Singles,” “Three Fugitives” and “Little Fish,” as well as the TV shows “Six Feet Under” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
The 1996 Robert Rodriguez film “From Dusk Till Dawn,” written by Quentin Tarantino, is set in Texas and Mexico. Production actually took place at neither, however. Instead, the film was shot primarily in California.
In the opening scene, the Gecko Brothers, Seth and Richie, played by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino respectively, visit Benny’s World of Liquor. The same location also appeared in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and still stands today. The building can be found in Lancaster, California. However, a fence has since been erected around the property, obscuring some of the views.

Here is the area next to the building, where Texas Ranger Earl McGraw, played by Michael Parks, first arrives, much in the same way he does (as the same character) in “Kill Bill.” The church he visits in that film is also located in Lancaster, just minutes away from this location.

The Dew Drop Motel where the Gecko Brothers meet Jacob, played by Harvey Keitel, can be found in Mojave. The same motel, actually called the Budget Inn Motel, was featured in the film “Nocturnal Animals.” Other than some slight renovations to the front of the motel, it still looks similar to how it appeared in the film.

The restaurant where Jacob eats with his daughter Kate and son Scott, played by Juliette Lewis and Ernie Liu respectively, has since been demolished. It was formerly located in Victorville, on I-15 Frontage Rd, just off Interstate 15. Here is where the building once stood.

The Titty Twister bar and strip club is not located in Mexico, as depicted in the film. It was a set built on a dry lake bed in Yermo, just off Interstate 15, near Calico Blvd and Ghost Town Rd. There are, of course, no longer any remnants of the set. However, the mountains in the background allow the ability to coordinate where the sets approximately stood. Facing west on the lake bed, looking towards Ghost Town Rd is where the Titty Twister was located.

Looking the opposite direction is where the dirt path up to the bar was located. There is of course no Aztec temple to be found there, which was a visual effect.

The 2005 film “Lords of Dogtown” is set in the Dogtown area of Santa Monica during the 1970s. However, the film shot at a variety of different locations around Southern California. Early in the film, the boys are shown waking up early and making their way out to the beach to surf. Stacy Peralta, played by John Robinson, is seen climbing out his window with a surfboard in the early AM hours. Stacy’s house can be found in San Pedro.
