Poetic Justice (1993)

The 1993 John Singleton film “Poetic Justice,” starring Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur, was filmed in Los Angeles. Lucky, played Shakur, visits the apartment of his daughter Keisha, who lives with her mother Angel. The apartment can be found in Mid City, just off the 10 freeway.

Jerry Maguire (1996)

The 1996 Cameron Crowe film “Jerry Maguire,” starring Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger, was filmed in Southern California. The condo where Jerry, played by Cruise, lives can be found in Marina Del Rey. It is only seen from interior views in the film.

The home of Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr., is a bit of a drive outside of L.A. to Westlake Village.

The home of Dorothy, played by Zellweger, can be found in Manhattan Beach up a very steep and narrow hillside. It must have been a challenge getting movie trucks into this space.

Jerry and Dorothy go on a date at a mexican restaurant, which still exists today near Playa Vista. It is only seen from interior views in the film.

Ray (2004)

The 2004 Taylor Hackford film “Ray,” starring Jamie Foxx, tells the life story of legendary musician Ray Charles. Production primarily took place in Louisiana, with some additional filming in Los Angeles, California. Early in the film Ray Charles, played by Foxx, performs at The Rocking Chair club. Afterwards, the club owner Marlene, played by Denise Dowse, offers Ray to stay at her place, supposedly located in Seattle. The house can actually be found in New Orleans.

The film jumps ahead to 1950 as Ray is performing in Los Angeles. Several quick establishing shots of the city are seen, including Los Angeles City Hall, which appears a couple times in the film.  The iconic building has been featured in endless films, such as “L.A. Confidential,” “Liar Liar,” “The Nice Guys,” “Fracture,” “Gangster Squad,” “Impulse,” L.A. Bounty” and more.

This building is also briefly seen as the Waters & Sons Record Shop during the Los Angeles establishing shot montage. The same location appeared in the film “Devil In A Blue Dress.”

A Cinderella Story (2004)

The house from the 2004 Hilary Duff film “A Cinderella Story” can be found in Altadena, California.

Sam, played by Duff, works at this diner, located in Long Beach. The same diner has also appeared in the films “Zodiac,” “Corrina, Corrina” and “The Real McCoy.”

During a masquerade ball, Sam takes a walk with Austin, played by Chad Michael Murray. This scene was filmed at the Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino. The trellises they walk under can be found near the Rose Garden.

Boyz N The Hood (1991)

The house where Furious Styles, played by Laurence Fishburne, and his son Tre, played by Cuba Gooding Jr., live in the 1991 film “Boyz N The Hood” can be found in Los Angeles, California. The same home appears in the spoof film “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.”
