The 1995 Larry Clark film “Kids” was shot in New York City. Many of the locations, which are scattered all across Manhattan, have changed over the years, but the film remains an unflinching portrait of youth in the city in the 1990s. One location relatively unchanged is the steps outside of Darcy’s home, where Telly and Casper, played by Leo Fitzpatrick and Justin Pierce, talk at the beginning of the film.

Telly and Casper meet up with a large group of their skater friends at Washington Square Park, where a massive fight soon breaks out. The park, as depicted in the film, is a popular skate spot in real life. In fact, its where director Larry Clark would often meet screenwriter Harmony Korine, as well as many other kids that would eventually join the cast of the film. Washington Square Park has been seen in countless films, including “Chasing Amy,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “I Am Legend,” “Ghostbusters II,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Serpico” and many more.

The scenes of all the kids walking together down the center median of the road, which was also featured on some of the film posters, was shot at E Houston St / Avenue A, New York, NY 10002. While there is still a median there, it is now filled with plants and trees, instead of flat grass as seen in the film and pedestrians can no longer traverse it.
The swimming pool all the kids sneak into at night was the Tony Dapolito Outdoor Pool. The same pool famously appeared in the film “Raging Bull.”

The club scenes where Jennie searches for Telly supposedly take place at NASA, a real former weekly rave that took place every Friday night at the Shelter club in Tribeca in the 1990s. However, the movie instead filmed at The Tunnel, a famous club formerly located in Chelsea. The Tunnel permanently closed back in 2001 and the building is now being remodeled. The location had appeared in other films, such as “Belly,” “Ghostbusters II” and “Vampire’s Kiss,” but there’s not much there to see today.
